Making Waves: Exploring the Sea Through Science and Sound

  • Assembly Hall Bachelor's Walk Wicklow, County Wicklow Ireland (map)

Scientists, musicians and makers turn ocean data and marine samples into sound, light and art. An afternoon of new ways to see the sea. GET FREE TICKETS HERE - Part of SCIENCE WEEK events!

So much of what happens in the sea is hidden from us. Marine scientists, who study the sea, collect huge amounts of information - from water temperatures and tides to looking at the biology and behaviours of marine animals.

However, a lot of this information ends up as numbers on a screen. Making Waves asks what happens when we find new ways to look and think about at this information.

For Science Week, marine scientists, electronic musicians and makers are coming together for an afternoon of exploring the sea in ways you've never seen or heard before.

Visitors can listen to ocean data turned into music, see marine research turned into light and visuals and explore samples taken directly from the sea using hands-on tools.

The afternoon is hands-on and designed for all ages. There will be things to watch, to listen to, touch and try, with scientists, musicians and makers on hand to talk about their work and how they created it.

No science background is needed - just a curious mind!

Drop in anytime between 2pm and 6pm to take part!

Making Waves is part of Science Week 2026 (www.scienceweek.ie) and is brought to you by Dublin Maker (www.DublinMaker.ie), JellyLab, Tog Hackerspace (www.tog.ie) and the Bloop Groop (www.bloopgroop.com), funded by Research Ireland.
